National recognition for the YES team

The Youth Emotional Support (YES) team has received national recognition for the work it does to support young people in West Sussex with a range of mental health and wellbeing needs.

YES – run by West Sussex County Council and commissioned by West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups – were finalists in this year’s prestigious Children and Young People Now awards.

Team members Mark Oliver and Sue Paul attended a gala ceremony at the Hurlingham Club in London on 21 November 2018, where the service was runner-up in the Mental Health and Wellbeing category.

Paul Marshall, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “I’m delighted that the incredible work the YES team do to support young people has been recognised at this national awards ceremony.

“The team make sure those who are struggling don’t feel alone and get the help they need so they can work to overcome the issues they face.”

YES is a free service for 11-18 year olds, supporting young people with a range of things, including anxiousness, mood, relationship issues, self-injury and unhelpful thoughts.

YES received approximately 2,500 referrals last year and provides one-to-one and group support, with a community-based, young person-centred approach.

The CYP Now Awards celebrate the achievements of professionals who work with children and young people around the country.
