Haywards Heath ‘IN BLOOM’ Art Project

The Haywards Heath ‘IN BLOOM’ Committee were delighted to host a Tea Party and exhibition of art at the Town Council to thank all those who participated in this years Art Project. Attendees were treated to tea and cakes along with some fun and entertainment from Marco the Magician while they viewed all the canvasses produced for this year’s Art Project.

Participants were invited to create a canvas around the poignant poem by John McCrae ‘In Flanders Fields’ his inspiration from the early days of the second battle of Ypres. The ‘IN BLOOM’ Committee were keen that this year’s art project should include pieces of community art work to honour the bravery and valour of the soldiers of the first world war.

Various groups and organisations from the town including the Kangaroos, care and nursing homes and regulars from the Dementia Café in Haywards Heath, created beautiful pieces of Art Work. These will be on public display at Haywards Heath Library in the week before Remembrance and at St Wilfrid’s Church from the 9th November.

Cllr Sandy Ellis, Chairman of Haywards Heath IN BLOOM Committee said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to all the groups and organisations involved in this project. The canvasses produced were stunning and each individually showed so much creative expression of John McCrae’s Memorial Poem. A community connected through the arts creates a Town filled with civic pride and Haywards Heath Town Council was a fitting place to showcase our cultural heritage and thank all the participants. This community art work will now be part of our civic services to mark the anniversary of the end of WW1.”

Entries were received from Adelaide House, Ashton House, Beechurst Care Home, Birchwood Grove, Bletchley Unit, Dementia Café (Know Dementia) Haywards Heath, Elderberry Club, The Goldbridge, Hannover Housing, The Kangaroos, Maplehurst Nursing Home, Oakwood Court and Walstead Place Residential Home.
