Squire’s donate over 11,000 tulip bulbs to Washington Parish Council

Squire’s Garden Centre in Washington has donated over 11,000 tulip bulbs to Washington Parish Council. Squire’s team members, together with Washington Parish Councillors and children from St. Mary’s School, planted the tulip bulbs on Friday 19th October.

This donation was made possible by Squire’s “Love Where You Live” campaign, where the garden centre pledged to donate 10 bulbs for every bag of bulbs that customers purchased in September. The campaign has been such a phenomenal success that Squire’s are donating 230,000 bulbs to local parks, green spaces, schools, hospitals and charities across the South East.

Zoe Savill, Clerk at Washington Parish Council said; “On behalf of the Parish Council, thank you to you all, especially the children, for planting the bulbs on Friday. Thanks also to Squire’s for kindly donating the bulbs. It will be wonderful to see a blaze of colour on the grounds next spring!”

Sarah Squire, deputy chairman of Squire’s commented; “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, and we are very grateful for the support our family business receives from local people. It’s fantastic to be able to give something back to the communities where we are located. Autumn is the best time of year to plant spring flowering bulbs. ‘Tulip tarda’ is the variety we have donated. It has clusters of beautiful yellow and white fragrant star-shaped flowers. It has won the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and I am sure that it will produce a spectacular display of colour come next springtime.”
