June Competition: Win a copy of Day Walks on the South Downs!

Local author, photographer and hillwalker Deirdre Huston has published the 2nd edition of her popular guide ‘Day Walks on the South Downs’.

Featuring twenty circular routes, between six and fourteen miles (nine kilometres and twenty-two kilometres) in length, suitable for walkers of all abilities. The routes are split into three geographical areas – Hampshire, West Sussex and East Sussex – and include walks to the most historic and beautiful areas of the South Downs National Park, including Winchester Hill Fort, Black Down, Chanctonbury Ring, Devil’s Dyke, Ditchling Beacon and Beachy Head. Each route is described with easy-to-follow directions and details of distance, navigation information, refreshment stops and is plotted on clear and easy to use Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 mapping.

Deirdre Huston’s work is inspired by her love of the outdoors. Researching guidebooks gives her the perfect excuse to indulge her love of walking and photography. She enjoys exploring favourite Day Walks on the South Downs places as much as seeking out new locations which are tucked away, yet to be discovered. Deirdre runs community-based Young Writers’ Workshops in mid-Sussex and is author of the children’s story Jake, Zee-Bee and the Crystal Quest.
