New Village Hall
The new Village Hall in the Abingworth development is finally open for business! The building features a large main hall suitable for sports and staged events; a second large and stylish meeting/activity room, ample kitchen facilities, and for summer events an attractive patio area opening onto our sports fields. These great new facilities can be booked for regular groups, parties and other events – call 01798 815 467 or email info@thakehamvillagehall.co.uk.
On Wednesday 16th January there will be a Quiz event in the new Hall, fundraising for the High Bar Lane playground improvements. Contributions of any size can still be made – see our website.
At time of writing (December) the PC is preparing to receive a planning proposal for a change of use within the new village shop building, next-door to the Village Hall. We understand that the owner seeks consent for a veterinary practice alongside the shop and a café area.
New facilities create new opportunities for Thakeham to play a bigger role in the local cultural scene, helped by the timing of Horsham District Council’s Year of Culture 2019. The play ‘Red Lion’ (about local football) will be staged in our new Village Hall, and two Art workshops are scheduled in June at the Blue Idol (Society of Friends meeting house). If you have an idea for an event and are looking for venue and publicity support, Thakeham PC’s Community group and the Year of Culture team can support you. Traffic Calming
Following the safety audit of the traffic calming measures in the Abingworth 30mph zone of the B2139, WSCC Highways have agreed the need to improve visibility around the northern build-out feature. The option of further speed-reducing features north of this build-out will be considered further. Please do continue to drive with maximum caution through central Thakeham.
