A big, old fashioned, Royal Garden Party at Stanmer, fit for our new Duke and Duchess!
Sussex celebrated in grand style with a quintessential British tradition – the Royal Garden Party – held at Brighton’s very own stately home, Stanmer House, previously the seat of the Duke of Chichester. With the announcement of Harry and Meghan’s new title – TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – crowds were in jubilant, high spirits for the Royal Wedding, streamed live to four large screens in the country house marquee and private gardens.

The sun shone brightly on 400 guests who were entertained by jazz quintet ‘The Jazz Monkies’, with Brighton’s Cabaret Queen Miss Dolly Rocket providing live commentary for the wedding procession and service. The prosecco flowed and canapes, BBQ and traditional Afternoon Teas went down a storm.
Pitched as ‘the family and dog friendly, crowd-free place to enjoy the Royal nuptials’, Stanmer did not disappoint; giant kid’s games on the lawns, a shaded woodland play area and doggie treats kept the whole family happy.
Steeped in history, Stanmer House boasts several royal connections from its 300 year history – from a visit in 1782 by Princess Amelia, daughter of King George II and – so rumoured – as a residence for one of King George IV’s mistresses. Fast forward two hundred years, Stanmer hosted horse carriage trials which saw HRH The Duke of Edinburgh racing through the Grade II listed parkland.
Obviously, Stanmer is now hopeful that this royal connection will continue with a visit by the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex – perhaps in time for the house’s tercentenary in 2022.
