Local charity Dementia Support has launched a new £1 million Appeal to help fund vital ‘Wayfinders’ to reduce loneliness, give the best quality care, provide hope and support for the whole family affected by dementia.
Every 3 minutes somebody will develop dementia. There are 15,000 people living with dementia in West Sussex, with 5,500 in our local area, but currently the charity can only reach 10%.
The Wayfinder Appeal
The Wayfinder Appeal has been launched to fund more personal advisors and life-changing dementia support services, to enable the charity to reach more families. As a local charity, Dementia Support relies on donations and the generosity of the public.
In May, the Wayfinding Team went on tour with their eye-catching pink sofa. You may have spotted them in Chichester, Bognor, Pagham, Rose Green, Fittleworth, Petworth, Selsey or the Witterings?
They were offering dementia information and advice to people in these communities, and the tour acted as a precursor to the community support the charity has ambitions to provide in the near future.
“A diagnosis of dementia is devastating for most people. At Dementia Support we are here for people when they receive that news. We will help people living with dementia and their families throughout their dementia journey, and our Wayfinders are a crucial part of that journey. They provide essential guidance and emotional support in helping people to live well with dementia.” Sally Tabbner, CEO, Dementia Support.
Anne found great comfort for herself and her husband Bob when they spoke to a Wayfinder at Dementia Support: “If we hadn’t found Dementia Support, I would never have been able to find the support Jacquie, my Wayfinder, has put in place. There was no-where we could go before Sage House was open. I can talk to people, Bob can talk to people, and if I’m not coping well, I know I can come to Dementia Support.”
