MP visits St Nicholas Church Fete in Arundel

Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert visited Arundel’s St Nicholas Church fete on Saturday (30 June).

The Summer Fete was held in and around the grounds of the historic 14th century church and is its main annual fundraiser.  This year the fete collected a record £5,000 and the profits will go towards the continuing restoration of the building.

Stallholders at the fete included local producers and groups, and a pop-up café inside the church served refreshments.  Live music was provided by the church’s own barber shop quartet, its rock band ‘The Alternatives’, and performances by some of the local schoolchildren.  Further fundraising was made through a raffle and a silent auction.

The MP chatted to local people and met the small team of volunteers who made the fete possible.  Their efforts were praised by St Nicholas’ Vicar, The Rev David Twinley, who said he was “in awe of the amazing team of organisers, four members of the congregation.”

Mr Herbert said: “I really enjoyed visiting the fete on such a glorious Summer day and meeting the hard working volunteers who made it all possible.  I am so pleased that the day was such a success for them.”
