People can book onto a powerboating course with Chichester District Council’s foreshores team this summer.

The Council’s foreshores service is offering Royal Yachting Association (RYA) powerboat training from the Foreshores Office in Bracklesham Bay until September 2019.

The Level 2 Weekend Powerboat course covers topics such as: man overboard, rights of way, collision regulations, close quarter boat handling, basic navigation, launching and recovery. The course costs £225 and no previous experience is necessary.

The training takes place on a 5.4 metre Avon Searider rigid inflatable boat with twin 40 horsepower engines.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in powerboating and has never done it before,” says Alison Stevens, Divisional Manager for Environmental Protection at Chichester District Council. “We are pleased to be able to offer these courses to the public to help them explore our beautiful coastline this summer.”

The Foreshores Office promotes water safety and public wellbeing along our foreshore. During the summer months, between April and September, the office operates safety boat patrols. The crews are fully trained and also hold RYA powerboat qualifications.

The office is situated at the end of Bracklesham Lane, Bracklesham. The team help with up to date weather conditions, tide tables and general information regarding the beach and foreshore.
