Labour now the official Sussex opposition party

Over the last two years, membership in Arundel and South Downs Constituency has quadrupled. At the General Election earlier this year, Labour doubled its share of the vote and for the first time leapt ahead of the Lib Dems to become the official opposition in the Sussex constituency.

Shadow Foreign Secretary, Emily Thornberry says: “For the first time in many years, Labour has succeeded in winning council seats in coastal towns in Sussex, overturning Tory and UKIP majorities, and that is all down to the magnificent efforts of our local party members and supporters.”

Emily Thornberry was elected to parliament in the 2005 General Election, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2015, each time with an increased majority. Emily held various shadow ministerial positions before being promoted to Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth affairs in 2016.

Emily Thornberry is attending a fundraising dinner at the Hassocks Hotel on Thursday November 30th.
