Develop New Friendships at Meetup Wednesdays

Local residents of all ages are encouraged to make new friends at Shoreham’s weekly meetup event.

The Waterside pub welcomes all for a free cup of tea, coffee and conversation as part of a national scheme which aims to reduce loneliness.

Located at the southern end of the town’s Adur Ferry Bridge, the pub is the first in the town to host the drop-in social sessions, which run from 11am to 12pm every Wednesday.

This week saw Adur District Councils’ Executive Member for Health & Wellbeing, Cllr David Simmons, attended the session to show his support.

First started at The Alexandra pub in Wimbledon, the Meet Up pub events have been a huge success across the country. They aim to give locals the chance to get together for at least one day each week, using pubs as well-known focal points thanks to their welcoming environment.

Evidence shows that building relationships with family, friends and the wider community is important for wellbeing.

Cllr Simmons said: “It’s a unique opportunity for people to come together in a social situation to develop new friendships and meet others who may be isolated.

“There are also opportunities at the event to find out about local services, how to access them and where to find support. So why not come along and meet some new friends?”

Meet Up Wednesdays take place every week at the Waterside pub on Ferry Road, Shoreham, with its friendly staff welcoming you with open arms.
