New Neighbourhood Wardens for Southwater and Storrington

Horsham District Council has just recruited four new Neighbourhood Wardens for the Horsham District.

Dominic Woodhead and Jacquie Cave are the new warden team for Southwater Parish and Chris Poore and Andy Cotton are the wardens for the parish of Storrington & Sullington.

Dominic, Jacquie, Chris and Andy join the existing team of 10 wardens based in Ashington, Billingshurst, Horsham Town, Pulborough and Steyning/Bramber/Upper Beeding (joint scheme).

Based within the community, the Neighbourhood Wardens work alongside partner agencies to improve the quality of life for everyone by undertaking a number of activities from enforcement to community development, working with the elderly, vulnerable and young people. They are managed by Horsham District Council, working closely with the Parish and Neighbourhood Councils to set priorities. The Schemes are funded by the Parish Councils and Neighbourhood Councils Special Charge.

Storrington & Sullington Parish Council Chairman, Anna Worthington-Leese, said

“Storrington & Sullington Parish Council is looking forward to welcoming Chris and Andy and working with them to make our community a better place to live”.

Southwater Parish Council Chairman, Graham Watkins, added, “We are very excited to introduce Dominic and Jacquie to Southwater. We believe that they will be an incredible asset to our community.’’

Also starting in a new role is Carly Jenkins, the Warden Supervisor. Carly will manage the work of the District’s 14 wardens and will often be based out in the communities with them.

Neighbourhood Wardens have certain enforcement powers and carry out high visibility patrols in their respective areas to deter crime and anti-social behaviour. Horsham District Council is accredited by Sussex Police and Neighbourhood Wardens can utilise certain police powers aimed at low-level anti-social behaviour. They can also exercise powers available to them as employees of the District Council in relation to environmental offences.
