Internationally recognised British contemporary fine artist, Shazia Mahmood, creates coastal landscapes meant to be felt, not just seen. Working from her studio in Birdham, West Sussex, she paints the landscapes on her doorstep: the wild waves of Bracklesham, the shifting light over East Head and the vast beaches of The Witterings. She’s also partial to capturing the dramatic coastlines of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, another of her favourite locations to paint.
She’s been a full-time, professional artist for the past 30 years and is regularly featured in exhibitions at some of the UK’s most prestigious galleries. Shazia brings a depth of material knowledge to every painting. Her abstract layering techniques in oils and mixed media build richly textured surfaces that invite you to step into the work itself.
The original painting by Shazia ‘Moving Clouds Over East Head’ (51 x 76 cm, oils and mixed media on canvas) captures a crisp, clear day when the colours of East Head and the South Downs were shining. Valued at £1,200, this is a one-of-a-kind piece to own.
You can see more of Shazia’s work at shaziamahmood.com, and if you’d like to experience her paintings in person, she is opening her studio as part of the Chichester Open Studios Art Trail on 16–17 and 23–24 May.
