Perched at the northwest point of the South Downs National Park, this is a large village in the Horsham District of West Sussex.
Many of its occupants are London commuters, as it’s is just 50 miles from the capital and has a well-served railway station.
The village is home to the South Downs Light Railway, which has steam- and diesel-powered trains running regularly throughout the summer months, and occasionally during the winter.
In woodland a mile to the northwest, you’ll find Park Mound, the earthwork remains of an 11th century motte-and-bailey castle.
In addition to the highly acclaimed county-competing Pulborough Cricket Club, and one of the fastest growing angling clubs in the southeast, it offers some undeniably British annual events for visitors and residents to enjoy:
On August Bank Holiday, the Duck Race takes place at the recreation ground. Organised for charity by the local duck race society, the event features a beer tent, a BBQ, and activities for children as well as racing ducks!
The village is also the place to witness a 12-hour lawn mower race, put on annually by the British Lawn Mower Association. Around 56 teams take part each year to race the magnificent garden-trimming beasts around a hay-lined track – complete with pits, paddocks and a stewards’ zone.
