Slindon College shortlisted in National Excellence Awards

Slindon College, near Arundel, has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Boarding Schools Association (BSA) Supporting Excellence Awards 2024.

Following a thorough application process, Slindon College has been shortlisted in the Wellbeing and Mental Health Initiative Award category. There are just two other schools that have also been selected as finalists for this award.

Headteacher at Slindon College, Sotiria Vlahodimou said: “This award celebrates schools that have embedded robust mental health initiatives which provide supportive environments and programmes that enhance self-esteem, strengthen the school community, and promote healthy choices. We are delighted to be one of the three finalist schools from across the country!”

Providing outstanding pastoral care is at the heart of life at Slindon College and the school’s submission to the BSA awards detailed many of the wellbeing focused initiatives the talented and committed teachers at Slindon have embedded. Slindon College’s Mental Fitness Team is led by school SENCo, Adam Sharpe, and provides unwavering support to pupils at the school for their emotional security, confidence and overall mental health.

The Slindon College Mental Fitness Team run a range of initiatives from weekly Woodland Walks, a ‘time to talk’ programme, a newly introduced Interventions Learning Support Assistant is on hand to support dysregulated pupils and individual pupil meetings and daily reflection time all provide effective pupil support.

Slindon College SENCo and Mental Fitness Team Lead Adam Sharpe said: “As a small school we are thrilled to be a finalist in these awards. To provide the support we do for all our pupils involves the entire school community. From the food we serve through to our forest school and support staff, teachers and Learning Support Assistants, everyone plays a part in what we offer to our pupils.”

Slindon College is an independent Day and Boarding school for boys aged 8 to 18, set in the historic Slindon House located in the South Downs National Park. The College offers education for pupils who may struggle to fulfil their potential in independent and mainstream schools or need help removing barriers to learning.

Members of Slindon College’s Senior Leadership Team will attend the Boarding Schools Association Awards Dinner in London on Tuesday the 7th May.
