Maak Contemporary Ceramics at BEAR Petworth
On Wednesday 12th October, at BEAR Petworth, 10A New Street, GU28 OAS, specialists from Maak Contemporary Ceramics will offer residents of Petworth and the wider area an exclusive opportunity to assess their studio ceramics and advise on how the market has grown over the last 20 or more years.
BEAR Petworth – a unique destination shop in the heart of Petworth specialising in mid-century modern, antiques and home accessories – is hosting Maak for this event. Maak is the leading auction house and art consultancy dedicated to international studio ceramic art.
The founding of Maak
This is somewhat a homecoming. Marijke Varrall-Jones’ own career in the fine art auction world started in West Sussex some 24 years ago when she joined a local auction house. Marijke went on to found Maak in 2009 at a time when all the top London auction houses had stepped away from contemporary ceramics altogether, closing the specialist departments.
Since that time Maak has presented regular auctions in London presenting the very best in studio ceramics to a global audience and played an instrumental role in driving the exponential growth in the market.
The ever increasing global enthusiasm for studio ceramics has seen a string of auction records being set over the last two years reflecting an ongoing and sustained growth in the market, making it an exciting time to realise the value in a collection.
