The Event Director for Brighton Marathon Weekend (Fri 10th – Sun 12 September 2021) is making an urgent plea for the local community of Brighton & Hove to come out and support one of the city’s best-loved sporting events this September.
Volunteers and Event Team are desperately needed across a variety of exciting roles to help deliver the event for thousands of Brighton Marathon, BM10k and Mini Mile runners. More information is available at: https://brightonmarathonweekend.co.uk/volunteer-signup/
Both participants and charities are heavily relying on the long-awaited comeback of Brighton Marathon Weekend to raise much-needed funds and achieve their challenge of a lifetime.
Organisers have also announced key measures that will be implemented this year to help mitigate associated Covid-19 risk. Potential Volunteers who may be harbouring concerns about signing up can therefore feel reassured that their safety and comfort has been prioritised.
Tom Naylor, Event Director said: “Despite the fact that many Covid-19 restrictions have now been lifted in the UK, the wellbeing of our participants, staff and local community is of the utmost importance and we have therefore made some significant changes to make this year’s event as safe and secure as possible.
We very much hope that the Brighton & Hove residents will help us to bring the Brighton Marathon Weekend to life.”
In summary, the new measures for September’s event will achieve the following objectives:
To remove significant dwell times across the event footprint
To allow social distancing at all times
To reduce touch points between participants and Event Team
To spread participants out from the Start area through to the Finish
To reduce spectator congestion
As well as amends to key site layouts and procedures, some general measures will also be in place across the event for the safety and reassurance of all:
Increased staff hand washing facilities across all sites
Hand sanitiser at all key event touch points
Members of the Event Team who feel more comfortable wearing face masks will be encouraged to do so
Signage will be in place across the event to reinforce social distancing messaging and hygiene
SPECTATOR ADVICE:
As part of these measures, organisers are also asking for the local community to please act responsibly if coming out to spectate this year. To help maintain social distancing for all on Sunday 12 September, residents and supporters are being asked to avoid these usually popular areas:
the Start in Preston Park
the Sealife Centre Aquarium roundabout
Madeira Drive at the Finish
With 26.2 miles of course, there are many opportunities to show support away from these locations and still celebrate a fantastic day in the city.
