A ho-ho-whole lot of festive fun is coming to the towns and villages across Adur.

With the most wonderful time of year on the horizon, Adur District Council is supporting businesses across the area with a host of events designed for all the family.

First up this weekend is Southwick Christmas Market this coming Saturday (1st December) from 10am to 4pm. Located in Southwick Square, the Council has teamed up with Southwick Traders Association to offer stalls, food, entertainment, rides and plenty of Christmas cheer – along with an appearance from Father Christmas himself.

The festive fun will continue with Light Up Shoreham on Friday 7th December from 3:30pm to 8:30pm. The town’s independent shops and restaurants will be open for an evening of late-night shopping opening with more than 50 stalls offering gifts, crafts, jewellery, clothes, toys and much more. Attendees will also be able to take advantage of free off-street parking, which includes Pond Road, Tarmount Lane and Middle Street car parks, from 3pm while the event is running.

The fun does not stop there. In the run up to Christmas, Adur Markets promise to deliver the festive feelgood factor. The Shoreham Farmers Market will return to East Street on Saturday 8th December from 9am to 2pm. Lancing Christmas Market will be back on North Road on Saturday 15th December from 9am to 1pm. And for those last minute presents, Shoreham Artisans Market will take place on Saturday 22nd December from 9am to 2pm in East Street.

Councillor Brian Boggis, Adur District Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year and I’m delighted to see so many opportunities for the communities of Adur to come together this Christmas time.

“I urge everyone to pop along to Lancing, Shoreham or Southwick and take in some of the festive fun on offer.”

Adur District Council is also reminding shoppers that visitors to Southwick can park for free in the Southwick Square car park every Saturday until the end of the year.

The Council has waived the fees for the second year running, after listening to traders in the area who had said that an increase in car park tariffs approved in 2016 had coincided with a drop in footfall.

Councillor Emma Evans, Adur District Council’s Executive Member for the Environment, said: “As a Council we are always looking to listen to and support local traders as they play such a key role in keeping our local economy vibrant.

“Southwick Square is a prime example, with its range of excellent independent shops playing an integral part in the town’s community.

“With the festive period on the way, it’s important that we do what we can to encourage people to buy local which is why I’m pleased that once again we’ve been able to offer motorists this early Christmas present.”
