Santa’s helpers cycle the length of Sussex

On Tuesday 19 December, the Worthing Theatres team worked together to take part in an all-day Santa cycle at the Connaught Theatre to raise money for Chestnut Tree House.

With an indoor bike generously supplied by South Downs Leisure, Stephen Sheldrake, Milan Thankey and Tom Cooper dressed up as Santa’s helpers to cycle 80 miles in 6 hours; the entire length of Sussex along the coast.

The Connaught customers kindly donated spare change on their way to the cinema and the team managed to raise £67.89 over the day.

Chestnut Tree House, which cares for 300 children and young adults from 0-19 years of age with progressive life-shortening conditions, is the official charity partner of the Worthing Theatres pantomime, and this partnership has continued for the past three consecutive years.

Amanda O Reilly, Head of Culture for Worthing Theatres, says “ We’re really pleased to be able to support the fantastic work of Chestnut Tree House year after year. Our pantomime attracts families from across the county and for us it is really important to highlight the great services that the hospice provides to families in need, and to do our part in helping to raise these vital funds .”

Chestnut Tree House Community Fundraiser Caroline Roberts-Quigley says “ We are so grateful to Worthing Theatres for once again choosing us to be their charity Pantomime partner. Every year the children look forward to meeting members of the cast at the house and enjoying the panto. On behalf of everyone at Chestnut Tree House, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you. We need to raise a staggering £6,850 every day to provide all of our specialist care services, so the support from Worthing Theatres and everyone who generously donates at the end of the performances is invaluable .”

Aladdin runs at the Pavilion Theatre, Worthing until Tuesday 1st January 2019.  For more information on tickets visit www.worthingtheatres.co.uk or call the Box Office on 01903 206 206.
