Are you interested in a paid casual role at one of our polling stations during elections?

Adur & Worthing Councils are recruiting extra people to become paid members of its polling staff during the local and national elections next year and beyond.

There will be local elections in Adur and Worthing on 2nd May 2024 and on the same day residents will be asked to vote in the Sussex police and crime commissioner elections. There will also be a general election at some point before the end of January 2025.

The councils are responsible for the running of all these elections and are now looking to recruit additional staff to help run the 67 polling stations across the district and borough. By getting involved and becoming a member of polling staff, residents can help to deliver a smoothly-run polling day.

Polling clerks are a vital part of the democratic process. They make sure that everyone is able to cast their vote in secret, without being influenced and in a calm atmosphere.

They also make sure that voting is an easy, accessible process for those who come and vote, so that everyone who wants to can make their voice heard.

As well as polling clerks, residents can also apply for a series of other casual roles involved with elections, including counting assistants, count supervisors, postal vote openers and electoral canvassers.

The councils are also holding an open day at Worthing Town Hall from 10am to 2pm on Thursday 18th January where there will be more information about how someone can get involved.
