Residents will get the chance to have their say on plans to redevelop the old RAF Air Cadets site at Victoria Road into temporary housing for those at risk of becoming homeless.

Worthing Borough Council is developing plans for the site at 20-22 Victoria Road and is inviting people to look at the plans and give their feedback.

The pop-up consultation event takes place on Wednesday 20 July between 3.30pm and 7.30pm at St Andrew the Apostle Church in Victoria Road.

Cllr Emma Taylor, Worthing’s Cabinet Member for Citizen Services, said: “We believe in prioritising the need for sustainable homes in order to house the people on our waiting list. This consultation shows that we are following through on our promise to explore ways of doing this.

“Housing is a basic human right and we want to build mixed communities of Council housing and private developments that cater for young and old, single people and families. Temporary accommodation is an important part of this mix.

“We want to help people access homes that are safe, sustainable, truly affordable and which support their physical and emotional wellbeing.”

11 flats are planned with a budget of £3.4 million, in a scheme which is designed to save money by reducing the need for B&B accommodation to be used as emergency housing.

Once the event has taken place, the consultation page will go live at https://www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/small-sites-consultation-july-2022/.
