Lancing Flower Club celebrates 70 years

In July 2026 Lancing Flower Club will be celebrating it’s 70th year.

Changes through the years

Lancing Flower Club was founded on 16th July 1956 by an enthusiastic group from Lancing Horticultural Society. The meetings were initially only afternoons, an evening section was started on 27th September 1963. Due to lack of demand the evening sessions no longer run.

Practice classes for our members were introduced in 1968, and continue to this day.

Local displays & national magazine recognition

Over the years, our members have helped to decorate most of the churches in Sompting and Lancing, plus many more in the surrounding Sussex area. Such as Leonardslee and Lancing College. In 2024 a team of us decorated the North St Johns Chapel at Chichester for the popular 3 day attraction Festival of Flowers.

Many members have also enjoyed competing and/or exhibiting at our own and other local club shows, and we have been represented at Area and National Shows, our teams winning first place awards in 1985 and 1987 at these events. Yet another team was Commended at Chelsea Flower Show in 1992. Several members have had photographs of their exhibits published in the national magazine: The Flower Arranger, and used as notelets and calendars.

Demonstrations & all welcome

The club meet most months on the third Monday to watch a national demonstrator, or one of their own members will demonstrate. They welcome all people to visit and then can choose to join and become a member.
Details of the club and meetings can be found online at Www.lancingflowerclub.weebly.com. Or follow us on instagram lancingflowerclub
The next meeting is September 21st, with a demonstration by the club’s very own Mandy South with: Inspired by nature.
