Financial advice on offer at free library events

Free events to protect the vulnerable from scams and give residents help with managing their finances are coming to two West Sussex libraries.

Run in partnership with Natwest bank, the drop in events will be led by community bankers and are open to anyone.

Preventing fraud, living in the digital world and being financially fit are just some of the topics they will be able to answer questions and offer advice on.

The events are taking place in:

• Storrington – every Friday 10.30am – 12.30pm from 27 July (the mobile bank parks in the library car park on Thursdays from 11:45am to 12:45pm)
• Petworth every Thursday 10.30am – 12 noon from 2 August (the mobile bank parks in the library car park on Wednesdays from 1:20pm to 2:20pm)

Debbie Kennard, Cabinet Member for Safer, Stronger Communities, said: “Our libraries are wonderful, versatile spaces which are at the very heart of West Sussex communities.

“Those who might otherwise struggle to visit their nearest bank will really benefit from these drop-in sessions.

“It is all too easy to fall prey to fraud and banking scams and I hope that these events will help more vulnerable members of our communities to protect themselves.”

Hannah Sensier-Davis, a Natwest Community banker, said: “In my role as Community Banker I’m looking forward to hosting regular events at local venues to help educate customers on being financially fit, training them on the different ways to bank in a digital world and how they can protect themselves from fraudsters.”
