National Allotment Week started on Monday 13th August this year and it’s all about inspiring people to grow their own fresh fruit and veg. Growing your own is a great way to kick start a healthier lifestyle – and it’s much easier than you may think!
Many of us worry we don’t have the time, space or skills necessary to grow fruit and vegetables. But tasty strawberries and juicy tomatoes can be grown in pots or hanging baskets by your front door with very little fuss, whilst lots of the herbs you use for cooking can be grown in pots on your kitchen window. If you’re limited on outdoor space, renting a nearby allotment will allow you to produce larger crops like onions and potatoes, and will also help you to meet local gardeners from whom you can learn tips and new skills.
