However when I sank into the comfortable seats and turned on the AC I felt very much at home. The first thing I noticed was the space, the interior is very roomy and the cream and grey upholstery gave off that luxurious ’leather’ aroma.
The keyless ignition emitted a jolly little tune as I started the engine, welcoming me on board. This was a taste of the many friendly touches SsangYong have incorporated into the Tivoli ELX. I was somewhat apprehensive about using the touch screen, expecting the satellite navigation map to take an age to load, however it was quick and intuitive to use.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]
Children loved it
My children loved playing around with the controls and settings. Favourite touches
One of my favourite features of the ELX was the rear-view camera which makes reversing and parking a doddle. Other nifty extras include the individual passenger and driver temperature controls plus a useful memory feature to save all the settings.
Driving speed is shown in a clear, digital display right in front of you as well as on the more traditional circular speedometer. As I was driving, the car beeped to warn me when there were speed cameras or if the speed limit had changed – helpful little things…
Rear load space is among the best in its class at 423 litres. I can vouch for this as I managed to fit a good number of magazine boxes and shopping in the back, without putting down the seats.
Safety features
Other safety features include a forward collision warning and autonomous emergency brakes. If a collision appears imminent, the braking system will intervene. Optional ‘lane control’ takes over if you start deviating from a traffic lane, and assists the car in staying toward the centre of the lane by applying a small amount of steering force. It is a peculiar sensation when the car takes control but I would certainly use it for motorway driving and found this and the other safety features very reassuring. The car is so safe it was awarded with an NCAP 4 Star Rating, partly due to its seven airbags, which is quite an astonishing feat. Another nice touch, not normally seen on cars in this competitive price bracket, was the wing mirrors folding away when I locked the car.
Overall I found the Tivoli ELX to be a delightful blend of comfort and good handling. If you want a spacious family car with a large range of user friendly features then the SsangYong Tivoli ELX may be for you.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Starting price of the basic Tivoli is £13,300.
