Paint a bird feeder at Squire’s Garden Centre

Bird Feeder - Squires

There are some great things for children to do at Squire’s Garden Centres this February Half Term. The highlight is a beautiful ceramic bird feeder that children can paint for just £4.75. The bird feeder will look lovely in the garden, and by adding a few treats you’ll help the birds find food in the winter months.

There are also free activities, including a Spring Hunt competition around the garden centre with the chance to win a prize, and a Spring Flower paper maze with a sticker for all who complete it.

Squire’s ‘Create and Grow’ activities are on from Monday 17th to Friday 21st February from 10am to 4pm. There’s no need to book, simply turn up on the day. Each activity takes around 20 minutes.

Plus to celebrate “National Next Box Week” there’s 20% off all bird care products at Squire’s from 14th to 23rd February (excludes Create & Grow bird feeder).

Benefits Of Feeding The Birds

· Education – Learn about the type of birds that visit, their behaviours & personalities.

· Company – Enjoy their company, colours and songs.

· Insect Control – As well as the food you put out, birds will also feast on insects, worms, snails and spiders.

· Flower Pollination – Birds help pollinate the flowers in your garden.

· Weed Control – Small birds such as sparrows and finches love eating seeds, including weeds that might be undesirable in your garden.

· Interact with nature – You don’t even need to leave your house, just look out of the window!

What You Should Feed Them

· Fill your feeder with nutritious foods, and vary your offering seasonally.

· Winter – In the cold winter month birds need high energy, high fat foods, such as peanuts, suet and sunflower seeds.

· Spring and Summer – At this time of year birds need protein-rich food, such as black sunflower seeds; soaked sultanas, raisins and currants; mealworms; seed mixtures; and fruit such as bananas and grapes.
