Storrington Hair Salon review by editor Kris Thomas
Adjacent to Gem Dry Cleaners in Mill Parade, Lustig & Webb Storrington has been open since summer ‘23 so I thought it was time I paid them a visit.
Salon owners Daniel and Stephen became well known from their time on the popular Friday night TV show “Gogglebox”. So, how did two TV personalities end up running a hair salon? Daniel told me, “We opened our first salon 11 years ago in Hurstpierpoint where we used to live. We always had a dream to open a second salon and Storrington seemed such a lovely place to do that. We met the previous owner Patsy who had the salon ‘Headlines’ for over 25 years and loved the space and the village, people are so friendly.”
Daniel and Stephen both have over 25 years styling experience and both trained with Toni & Guy. Daniel is a colour specialist studying with Loreal and loves big bold colour changes. Stephen specialises in technical cuts. They have two friendly poodles who enjoy fuss from the clients and every so often you hear the tip-tap of little doggie claws as Stephen takes them out for a walk.
Daniel told me, “Our ethos has always been modern tailored hair cuts and colours using great products. Giving a city feel but in your own village.”
The salon is bright and airy with modern décor and I received a friendly welcome. They have just expanded the team with junior stylist Naomi joining experienced hairdressers; Carly, Emma, Helen, Daniel and Stephen. A gentle buzz of chit-chat mingles with the intermittent hum of dryers.
My hair was in dire need of a cut and colour and stylist Helen confirmed what we’d discussed earlier in the week when I visited for a consultation and skin test. I was looking for a more even tone, keeping the blond but a less harsh colour and of course to touch up those pesky roots. My natural colour is a dark blond and the highlights I’d had last summer were well and truly grown out.
Helen prepared plenty of colour and set about applying this using foil strips. Whilst very gentle, Helen’s application process was super efficient and the time passed pleasantly with interesting conversation and delicious coffee. Helen is such a lovely person, and I’d recommend a visit just to chat to her, but crucially she is also a very skilled stylist with masses of expertise when it comes to colour. To equalise the shade and prevent the roots from growing back as obviously as before, Helen also applied a darker blond toner to the rest of my hair.
One of the founder team members at Lustig & Webb Storrington, Helen was previously at Rush in Worthing and I really felt in safe hands. She took a good two inches off the length and also cut in some longer layers to make my hair less weighty. I’d considered a going for a full fringe but Helen advised this would not be a low maintenance option which is really what I like. I was delighted with the end result and also the many complements I received from friends and family!
