Start time: 14:00 Talk by Jeremy Prescott and social event. Midhurst u3a’s monthly talk and refreshments event at Midhurst Methodist Church. The Laconia, an allied troop ship, owned by Cunard, was sunk by a U-Boat in WW2 on a voyage from USA to the UK. The presentation tells of the humanity of the U-boat crews who came to rescue the survivors, the bombing of those submarines by an American bomber and the bravery and resilience of some of the survivors who travelled 700 miles to West Africa in 2 lifeboats. Jeremy served 27 years in the infantry, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with active service in Northern Ireland and Oman. Also served in Germany, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Norway. 18 years as Chief Executive of a rural affairs charity in the Midlands.
