Start time: 10:30 Hans Holbein the Younger, Portraitist of the Renaissance by Jane Choy-Thurlow This lecture will explore this artist who through his portraits, esp. of the Henry VIII, his wives and courtiers have done so much to determine the image of this turbulent time. Examine the life and career of this 16th century ex-pat who travelled to many countries in pursuit of his career. But what makes his work so special? Why are his portraits so intriguing and fascinating for so many people? Is it his unbelievably refined technique and the beautiful use of colour which he used to make his paintings come to life? Or is it his talent to reveal the characters of these people so mercilessly? Jane is an active member of The Arts Society, she is a founding member of DFAS of The Hague and has fulfilled committee positions including chairman and Mainland Europe Area Chairman and presently is Area Trainer. She received her BSc from Salem State University, USA, her MEd from Trinity College Dublin. Based in Holland she is making a special trip for this talk.
