Start time: 19:00 Celebrate Sussex Day with the Duck Pond Sailors in the beautiful South Down’s village of Slindon. Thursday 16th June in Sussex Day. A time to remember the county that was once a kingdom. Shanty and folk-singing group, the Duck Pond Sailors, will be touring the village of Slindon, singing songs that celebrate Sussex, its history, folklore and landscape. One of the group, Chris Hare, is also a historian, and he will be telling tales of Sussex past, including those of smugglers, civil battles, ghosts, and village traditions. The event is organised by the Friends of the South Downs. Tickets are £6.50 each and include a free CD of sea shanties and sea songs for those lucky enough to book a place. Money raised will be shared between the Friends of the South Downs and suicide-awareness charity, Olly’s Future (www.ollysfuture.org.uk).
