Dr David Rudling will be giving a talk on Roman Sussex Life at the Pump Barn, Seven Sisters Centre.

Event Information

In this lecture Dr David Rudling will explore aspects of life in Sussex during the Roman period (AD 43-410). He will examine: the ‘Roman Conquest’ of Claudius, the client kingdom of Togidubnus, the tribal civitas capital at Chichester, the Flavian Palace at Fishbourne, villas, peasant farmsteads, field systems and farming, the ‘End of Roman Sussex’. These topics, and many more, will be considered from the perspectives of both the Romans and the native population.

Tickets are £5 and include tea and coffee.

Please join us for an optional 4 mile stroll before the talk starts. This stroll will take us on a journey through the centuries of human habitation of the area. Starting from the Seven Sisters Country Park Centre, we will take the flat path to the WW2 Pill Boxes and Dragons Teeth. The return journey will take in the abandoned plague village of Exceat, West Dean then circuit the Saxon origin flint village.
