Event Short Description

The process of making Champagne, interesting facts about Champagne, an English invention!

Event Information

The talk deals with the history of Champagne, going back to the earliest fossil of a grape, dated back to around 66m years ago. It covers the Roman influence and the earliest forms of sparkling wine; then the spread through Europe and the rest of the world including the First and Second World Wars. Peter will go through the process of making Champagne and finish with interesting facts about Champagne. Not an invention of the monk, Dom Perignon, but much, much earlier, and English!
