Sussex animal welfare charity Treat Me Kind is making an urgent appeal for support as demand for emergency pet food continues to rise across the county.
Making sure pets are not forgotten
The charity is asking people in Mid and West Sussex, and across the wider Sussex community, to give just £2 a month, or whatever they can afford, to help local people on low incomes keep their pets fed and, where possible, safely at home.
The appeal comes ahead of National Food Bank Day on 5 September, highlighting the vital role food banks play in supporting people facing financial hardship. Treat Me Kind works with local food banks and community groups to provide emergency pet food and essential supplies, helping to ensure that when people need support, their pets are not forgotten.
Angélique Davies, CEO and founder of Treat Me Kind said: “ I’m inundated with requests from food banks across the county, and I want to be able to answer every call with a positive response and the support they need. We exist to be there for animals across Sussex when they need us most. No one should have to choose between putting food on their own table and putting food in their pet’s bowl. Pets are family. For someone going through financial hardship, a pet can be their companion, their comfort, and sometimes their reason to get up in the morning. That’s why giving us £2 a month would mean the world, and if you can give more, we would be thrilled. It will mean we can provide more food, support more food banks and be there for more local people and their pets’’.
Every donation helps Angelique Davies to respond to the calls coming in and provide the food needed for cats and dogs.
Providing practical support
Treat Me Kind provides practical support to animals in need while promoting responsible pet ownership and animal welfare. Its work with food banks helps provide pet food to people who may otherwise struggle to afford it.
Angélique Davies continued: “A donated box of pet food or bag of litter can mean all the difference to managing the weekly shop for food. We know we can help more people, but budgets are stretched, so we hope readers will respond to this urgent appeal.”
