Nestled in the heart of Pulborough, River Moon has long been a favourite among locals, and it’s easy to see why. This well-established Thai restaurant combines authentic flavours with warm hospitality, making it a go-to spot for both dine-in and takeaway.

From the moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere felt inviting, relaxed with authentic décor that sets the stage for a memorable meal. What truly elevated the evening, however, was the exceptional service. Jacob, our server, greeted us with a friendly smile and genuine enthusiasm. He took the time to understand our preferences. My 15-year-old son is a self-confessed chilli lover, and Jacob’s thoughtful recommendations ensured every dish hit the right note of heat without overwhelming the palate.

Sharing is caring!
We began with a tempting array of starters: Chicken Satay, Thai Fish Cakes, and succulent Pork Ribs. Each dish was beautifully presented, adorned with intricate vegetable “flower” garnishes that showcased the kitchen’s attention to detail. The chicken satay was tender and perfectly grilled, paired with a creamy peanut sauce that balanced sweetness and spice. The fish cakes offered a satisfying bite, fragrant with Thai herbs, while the ribs were rich and sticky, falling off the bone with ease. These starters set a high bar for what was to come.

The umami experience
For mains, we opted for a mix of classics and house favourites. The Pad Thai with King Prawns was a standout – soft, silky noodles

tossed in a sauce brimming with rich umami flavours, complemented by fat, juicy prawns cooked to perfection. It was a dish that felt both comforting and indulgent. We also loved the Chicken Pad Kra-Poaw, a stir-fry that delivered a pleasant chilli kick without overpowering the dish. The balance of heat and savoury notes made it an instant hit at our table. For something truly special, the Moo-Krob Kra Poaw stole the show: crispy roast pork stir-fried with fresh garlic, green beans, onions, peppers, chilli, and fragrant basil. The textures were sublime, the crunch of the pork contrasting beautifully with the tender veg and aromatic herbs.

To complement the meal, we enjoyed a vegetable stir-fry and egg fried rice. The vegetables retained their vibrant colour and crunch, while the rice was light, fluffy, and subtly seasoned. Every dish arrived on white china crockery, adding a touch of elegance to the experience.
We were impressed by the consistency, with flavours that felt authentic yet approachable, presentation that was thoughtful without being fussy, and service that made us feel genuinely cared for. River Moon is a cornerstone of the Pulborough dining scene. Its popularity is evident in the steady stream of locals and the bustling takeaway service, a testament to its enduring appeal.
