Brass Festival Day

Brass Festival Day

Burgess Hill Girls is hosting a Brass Festival Day 2019. On 17th November there will be an opportunity to compete in solo/duet and ensemble classes followed by a ‘Trumpet Shall Sound’ demonstration. Crispian Steele-Perkins will be adjudicating and presenting for the day.

Trumpet soloist and Virtuoso performer, Crispian also collects and restores old trumpets upon which he has performed and recorded with The Academy of Ancient Music, The Kings Consort and The English Baroque Soloists. Appropriately, he plays the theme tune to one of the BBC’s longest-running and most popular TV programmes, the Antiques Roadshow. These instruments he brings along to audiences, showing how the instrument has developed over the centuries – from ancient Egypt to modern times. There are many strange looking things to see and hear, and the evolution of different techniques and mechanisms will be fully explained and demonstrated. Examples of the best known music will also be performed and plenty of time left for questions and answers.

As the Mid Sussex Competitive Music Festival is no long running it was decided by Sian Buss, local brass tutor, to run this Brass Festival Day. Not just aimed at school age players, this event will be open to all ages and standards with the opportunity to receive constructive advice from Crispian. It is hoped that everyone will attend the demonstration after the competitive section to learn about the history of brass instruments.

Ackerman Music is kindly supporting the event with a trade stand on the day plus gift vouchers for the winners to spend on their stand.
