Sussex Local Magazine was started in June 2007 by Kris Thomas, and husband Jeff.
The first issue, called ‘Key Local’, covered Storrington, West Chiltington and Thakeham in West Sussex. Around 3,000 copies were delivered and the response from readers and advertisers alike was excellent!
The following year the name was changed to Sussex Local and two new editions were added – the Findon & Pulborough editions.
In July 2008, one year after starting, the magazine was re-branded to the current purple and gold colours. In March 2009 we added the Arundel edition which brought the total to four separate area editions reaching 23,500 homes each month. We continued to improve the content, ensuring that we included plenty of non-commercial editorial to balance out the advertising. Our customer base also continued to grow and we have some customers who have been advertising with us from day one!
In 2015 we made our first acquisition “Chichester Local Magazine” which we brought into our own branding and re-launched in November of that year. Our total circulation with five editions was now 31,500 addresses per month. In March 2017 we launched a sixth edition covering Barnham and surroundings which brought our total circulation to over 38,000 homes and business. The most recent editions have been Midhurst/Petworth then Southwater, bringing the combined circulation to over 55,000 homes and businesses.
Sussex Local was 15 years old in June 2022.
Below is a video we produced in 2017 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Sussex Local Magazine.
In November 2017 we re-launched our website to include enhanced news, events and features in order to bring our offering to the whole of Sussex online.
The business continues to be run and managed by Kris and her husband Jeff together with a small team including a few talented and valued freelancers.
