As part of their community engagement through the Pride Cultural Development Fund, Brighton & Hove Pride challenged all local junior and primary schools to create an A4 artwork that represented what they loved about Brighton & Hove.
Each school ran an internal competition and the 2 winning entries were put forward to a judging panel made up of Pride staff, volunteers and local author Shanni Collins.
The panel were unable to decide on an overall winner so the £1,000 prize was split between Cleo Curtis for Hove Junior School and Etain Wedderburn for Carlton Hill Primary School.
The presentation of cheques and tickets to LoveBN1Fest for all entrants was made by Paul Kemp, Director of Brighton & Hove Pride, at the Jubilee Library where you can see all winning entries as part of Pride’s ‘Colour My World’ exhibition.
Paul said, “We were truely delighted by the response to our schools’ challenge and by some of the stunning and varied artwork we received. We hope to build on this first challenge to make it an annual event so even more young people get involved, and look forward to seeing what the winning schools will do with the prize money.
Located in 2 city centre venues, Jubilee Library and the BMECP Centre, the stunning ‘Colour My World’ exhibition includes creative contributions from over 60 artists, filmmakers and activists from the UK, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Open 23rd July – 5th August.
LoveBN1Fest will celebrate everything Brighton and Hove and bring all our communities and Rainbow families together for an afternoon of fun on the park. Featuring main stage artists, loads of family friendly entertainment, circus skills, performance artists, cabaret, dance tents, Street food village, accessibly tent and WellBeing area plus much more. Children under 14 are FREE.
