The Safer Arun Partnership has awarded a total of £15,000 in community safety grants to seven local organisations delivering projects to improve feelings of safety, deter antisocial behaviour, reduce crime, and help protect vulnerable people from harm across the Arun district.
Making a difference
The Community Safety Grant Fund was launched at the start of February this year and was fully allocated within just six weeks. The fund supports initiatives that make a tangible difference to neighbourhoods and residents and helps the partnership to deliver on its priorities of reducing crime, safeguarding those most at risk, and supporting communities.
Successful applicants are using their funding to deliver a wide range of activities – from youth diversion and engagement programmes, environmental improvements, support services for vulnerable people, and community-led safety initiatives.
Chair of the Safer Arun Partnership, Councillor Alan Butcher, said: “We are proud to support these seven organisations who submitted applications that the Safer Arun Partnership feel will play an important role in strengthening community safety across Arun. Each funded project brings people together, supports those who may be vulnerable, and helps to ensure our district remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone. These are local projects for local people.”
Strength of community-led initiatives
The successful uptake of the Community Safety Grant Fund has highlighted the strength of local community-led safety initiatives across Arun. In response, the Safer Arun Partnership has committed further funding to support a second round of grants later in the year, enabling even more organisations to contribute to reducing crime, preventing harm, and improving community wellbeing.
The Safer Arun Partnership brings together local agencies including Arun District Council, Sussex Police, West Sussex County Council, NHS partners, probation services, and voluntary sector organisations. Working collaboratively, the partnership focuses on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour, reducing harm, and improving wellbeing for residents across the district.
