Worthing’s first ever Pride event
This event will be a celebration of the diverse community we have here in Worthing in a context of inclusivity and fun, bringing together the local community to take part in the event.
On Saturday 14th July 2018 at 1pm a Pride parade on The
Promenade will lead everyone to Beach House Grounds
(past Splash Point) where a live stage will entertain
everybody from 2pm until 10pm. A full programme of
events has already been organised and there will also be
a good variety of food & drink stalls, along with craft and
merchandise stall including our charity and information
stands. Adding to the fun there will also be a Worthing Pride
Doggy Show held on the morning of July 14th in Denton Gardens.
…But Brighton has Pride..
Brightons Pride is amazing, but Worthing is quieter and calmer, so our Pride will be different, with a much greater emphasis on
making families welcome.
Will it be gay enough?
Of course, we have drag queen comperes and rainbow flags
everywhere, with plenty of Pride sparkle and we will be
encouraging local businesses to get directly involved too with
window displays and other initiatives.
We are following a Carnival on the Seaside theme, so lots of fun and colour which is a perfect combination for both Pride and our town.
We will be asking local businesses, shops and cafes to decorate
their window to show that Worthing is proud of Pride, with a
competition for the best dressed display. Also with smaller events
leading up to the main event.
We will be also encouraging local companies to have Pride events
leading up to the day, these events can be advertised on our
website for a small fee.
Worthing Pride will be supporting Coastal West Sussex Mind and All Sorts Youth Project
Do we need more prides?
Unfortunately yes, there is still discrimination against the LGBTQ
community on the south coast. We need to educate our town and support our friends, relatives and members of the community in being who they are. Pride is an effective way of showing our support for all members of the local community and beyond.
