Neighbourhood Plan To Go To Referendum

After 5 years of hard work by local people and parish councillors, the joint Storrington, Sullington & Washington Neighbourhood Plan has now been signed off by the examiner, subject to a number of modifications. The Decision Statement has recently been published by Horsham District Council, and the referendum date will shortly be scheduled. Providing that there is a simple majority in favour, the plan will then assume equal relevance to the HDC Local Plan, in determining future planning applications.(In the parish ward of Heath Common, an additional supplementary planning document, the Heath Common Design Statement, was adopted by HDC in July last year.)

Concentrating on the Washington elements of the Neighbourhood Plan, two sites are included for potential housing development: Luckings Yard (Montpelier Gardens), and Vineyards, Old London Rd. Both sites had been subject to public consultation, and were felt to be the most suitable locations within the parish. Councillors are supporting a provision of smaller, more affordable homes.

Many local residents supported the designation of Longbury Hill Woods, Rock Rd, as a local green space, and will be disappointed to hear that whilst put forward in our submission, it has been
ruled that the site does not meet the criteria for this
designation. It continues to operate under a Forestry Commission licence, and is not designated for housing development in the Neighbourhood Plan.

Speed Limit Reduction on A283 Approved

Following a formal request from the Parish Council, WSCC’s Chanctonbury Local Committee has approved a reduction in the speed limit past Millford Grange and Hampers Lane. The current 50 limit will be reduced to 40mph, in line with the adjoining Sullington section, and implementation will be during the 2019/20 financial year.
