The Winter 100 fundraiser

The Wave Project Brighton are taking on a new fundraising challenge, The Winter 100. They wanted to use the winter months to get everyone moving and raise the funds needed to continue their surf therapy sessions.

The surf mentors set the target to raise £10k in January through a series of self-set challenges around the number 100. Some challenges have seen the volunteers running 100 miles, baking 100 cakes, cycling 100k, completing 100 pole fitness shapes and braving 100 cold sea swims.

What The Wave Project does

The Wave Project is a nationwide charity which uses surf therapy to help change the lives of young people with mental health, confidence and anxiety issues that often lead to them being socially isolated and struggling at school. 4,868 young people have benefited from surf therapy sessions with The Wave Project.

Over the past 10 years, surf therapy has become an established form of therapeutic support for both mental and physical health. It is recognised by the NHS as an effective form of therapy for children and young people at risk of mental illness, and is used by the Police and Blue Light services as therapy for serving officers and professionals.
