After years of planning and negotiation and over one year of extensive construction work, Horsham District Council is delighted to announce that The Bridge Leisure Centre in Broadbridge Heath will be opening to the public on Saturday 20 October from 9am.
One of the most significant Council investments in years, this light and spacious new leisure centre complements the existing Council-owned facilities in Horsham, Billingshurst and Steyning.
Commenting on the opening, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture Cllr Jonathan Chowen said:
“I am really pleased that after the many years of planning and preparation that have gone into such a major project, we are now at this exciting stage to announce when our new flagship leisure centre will open.
“The new leisure centre represents one of the most significant projects in the Council’s history with an overall investment of some £12 million.
“We have worked extensively with partners and local sports clubs to develop a new sports and leisure facility which will meet and exceed the current and future needs of the growing and ageing community of the Horsham District, and I wish to thank all those who have supported us in reaching this milestone.
“The new leisure centre will bring first class leisure opportunities to local people and we are confident it will exceed all expectations and provide a centre of excellence for sporting and leisure activity.”
Sandra Dodd, Chief Executive of Places for Leisure, the operators of The Bridge Leisure Centre said:
“The new Bridge Leisure Centre is an impressive community venue. As a social enterprise with a mission to create active places and healthy people, we are excited to be able to complement these fantastic facilities with a diverse range of activities to encourage more members of our community to enjoy more active lifestyles.
” It really is an outstanding venue with something for everyone and we are pleased to work in partnership with Horsham District Council to help improve the health and vitality of our community and offer more opportunities for people to take part in physical activity.”
A new feature of the leisure centre, which is unique in the District, will be the colourful and challenging new climbing facility known as Clip ’n Climb housed in a fantastic indoor space covering 154m2. Both children and adults alike can enjoy the challenge of climbing up to a height of 7.5 meters using WOW features such as the Twister, Astroball, Stairway to Heaven and Leap of Faith.
The centre includes a 70+ station gym, 70+ workout classes, a six court sports hall, five outdoor sports courts, three studios including an Indoor cycling studio, athletics track, café, meeting room and a wide range activities for adults and children.
An exciting space within the centre will be the new Sensory Room, designed to encourage users to develop and enjoy their senses. The room can transform from a calming and soothing place to an exciting and engaging interactive space full of light and sound.
We also have a fully accessible Changing Places toilet. This is different to standard ‘disabled toilets’ and will be provided in addition to our accessible toilets.
To assist the preparations for the opening of The Bridge Leisure Centre, Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre will be closed from Wednesday 17th October. Customers can continue to use the gym at other Council-owned leisure centres during this three day closure period:
