Thakeham Pre-School move into new building
Since their move in January, staff and children of Thakeham Pre-School have been enjoying the facilities of their new building in Abingworth Crescent. This is the first of the Abingworth community assets to be delivered, and the Parish Council is now the landlord of the new building.
The new community assets bring with them some new costs but being mindful of not adding to residents’ financial burdens, the PC is proposing a 2018/19 budget that will hold our precept (the parish share of Council Tax bills) unchanged, at £51 for a Band D house.
Flooding
In the midst of another wet winter we are aware that floodwater on local roads creates dangers, especially when frozen. We are working with Highways and landowners to fix known issues, but the wider problem is with maintenance of ditches being neglected. Please help by ensuring that your land isn’t part of this problem!
Abingworth development
The Abingworth development has now delivered 20 new 3-bed affordable/shared ownership houses which are being marketed by Fowlers estate agents. Work remains on schedule to deliver the new Village Hall, Pavilion and football changing rooms by mid-2018.
Traffic calming
On the traffic calming front, new vehicle-activated signs for the Abingworth 30mph zone are being installed and formal consultations on ‘pinch point’ traffic calming proposals closed in January. We expect the next step to be Highways’ agreement of a detailed engineering scheme and works beginning in spring 2018.
Community minibus
We would still like to hear from anyone interested in helping coordinate a new community minibus scheme.
