Rough sleepers support stepped up in Adur & Worthing from 25th Nov

Support for rough sleepers in Adur and Worthing stepped up as temperatures drop

Rough Sleepers Offered Support as eviction ban ends

With temperatures set to plummet, Adur & Worthing Councils has stepped up its support for rough sleepers.

From Thursday 25th November, the Severe Weather Emergency Protocols (SWEP) will be activated. This means that anyone who is rough sleeping will be offered accommodation.

In the previous six weeks, the number of people rough sleeping locally rose significantly, as the fallout from the COVID pandemic continues. This includes the eviction ban coming to an end last month which has seen more people presenting as homeless.

Streetlink – connecting rough sleepers to support services

A spokesperson for Adur & Worthing Councils said: “Everyone who is currently rough sleeping has been offered accommodation during the cold spell. Our staff will also continue to be out and about ensuring that vulnerable individuals are directed to relevant services.

Businesses and residents are also encouraged to play their part. This includes connecting rough sleepers to local support services via Streetlink which sends reports directly to local teams.”
