Storrington Parish Council February News

Neighbourhood Plan

At the time of writing this article, we are putting the finishing touches to the Neighbourhood Plan and supporting documents so that they may be submitted to Horsham District Council for a final statutory consultation with the independent examination taking place early this year.

A public vote will follow if the Plan is approved by the examiner and provided the vote is successful, the Plan will finally become a statutory planning document that will help to protect our area from inappropriate development in the future.

Scams, Fraud & Rogue Traders – Public Presentation

The Parish Council is very concerned about the number of reports being received about telephone and doorstep scams and has been in contact with Sussex Police about this.

We have arranged to host a public presentation about the most prevalent scams including courier fraud, computer fraud and investment fraud. There will also be information about door to door rogue traders and how to get rid of them along with a short piece about Trading Standards.

The Presentation will take place at the Parish Hall on Thursday 29th March at 7pm. Posters will be displayed around the village advertising the event so please tell anyone you think may be interested in attending.

Village Gateways

Some months ago, I reported that the Parish Council is exploring the introduction of Village Gateways and signs at the entrances to the village which are designed to impart to drivers that they are about to enter a different environment from the open road and therefore should reduce their speed.

We have now had permission from West Sussex County Council to install a gateway on the Washington Road as a pilot project and hope that this will go ahead in the Spring.

Other parishes have reported that the presence of these gateways does appear to make a difference to drivers’ attitudes so we hope that this will also be the case in our village and if the pilot project is a success, we will be aiming to install these gates at all entrance roads into Storrington.

If you would like further information on these topics or any of the Parish Council’s activities, please contact the Clerk on 01903 746547.
