Council leaders will be quizzed by Adur & Worthing’s watchdog at its next scrutiny meeting.

From major projects to waste collections, housing to public health, Adur District and Worthing Borough Councils deliver a range of services to more than 160,000 residents.

As part of an ongoing commitment to openness and transparency, the leaders of both local authorities will be quizzed by Adur and Worthing Councils’ Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee (JOSC) at its next meeting on March 22.

Councillor Neil Parkin, leader of Adur District Council, and Cllr Dan Humphreys, leader of Worthing Borough Council, will face questions on strategic issues affecting both authorities.

Both leaders, their executive member colleagues and the Councils’ Chief Executive Alex Bailey will then answer questions on Platforms for our Places, the Councils’ three-year strategic plan.

Members of the public can also pose their questions on the evening. To submit a question, they are asked to email [email protected] by 6.30pm on Tuesday March 20.

Councillor Stephen Chipp, Adur District Council’s joint chairman of the Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: “As a committee we take our responsibility of holding people to account seriously – that includes our own leaders. I want to thank them, the executive members and the chief executive in advance for agreeing to attend and answer questions from our committee and the public.

Councillor Roy Barraclough, Worthing Borough Council’s joint chairman of the Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee, said: “An important element of democracy is holding those in power to account. I hope as many members of the public as possible can attend this session and help us find answers to concerns over this crucial area of public service.”
