Rotary Club earthquake collection for people in Turkey and Syria
Over 44,000 people have died and thousands are injured after a powerful 7.8 earthquake hit Turkey and Syria. Freezing temperatures have left thousands exposed to extreme cold and without shelter needing urgent support.
Rotary Club of Storrington & Pulborough District collected in Old Mill Square and at the Book Stall in Place Villerest, Storrington on Saturday 11th February and local folk were very generous in giving over £4,000. They’ve been able to send £1,350 each to:
- Shelterbox – providing tents and equipment to the homeless.
- Disasters Emergency Committee – 15 leading charities providing humanitarian help.
- 4 Rotary District Centres in Turkey – for generators, tents, winter clothes, diapers, hygienic pads, food, water and fuel as well as excavators and construction vehicles.
They wish to thank the local community for their prompt and generous support following this tragic earthquake disaster.
