Donating to charities via wills

Between 7th and 18th March, around 50 appointments will be available for people to have their will professionally written or updated.

Many charities rely on legacies left in people’s wills to help them continue their work, including Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.

A gift left to charities in people’s wills could play an important part in their ongoing mission. For Rockinghorse, it would help them be there for Sussex children and families for another 50 years.

Sorting a will can be difficult to get around to, so Rockinghorse are partnering with local solicitors Taylor Rose, ODT and Coole Bevis LLP to offer up to 50 free appointments to help people get this done.

Rockinghorse on local solicitors offer

Sharon Gearing, Trusts Fundraising Manager at Rockinghorse said: “We are so thankful to Taylor Rose, ODT and Coole Bevis LLP for offering their services to our supporters. With the cost of a single will being around £150 and a joint will around £250 this really is a wonderful offer.

“There is no obligation to leave a gift in your will to Rockinghorse if you use this offer, however, once you have provided for those closest to you, we really hope you might give some thought to supporting our work in this important way. Any gift you chose to leave would help us to be there for local families in the years ahead.”

“Thanks to donations and gifts left to us in our supporter’s wills, we can fund up to 50 new projects a year helping around 12,000 Sussex children. A gift left in your will could change the lives of children and families living in your community for many generations to come.”

Leaving a donation in a will

Examples from Rockinghorse of what different donation amounts to them could achieve:

  • £1,000 could provide mental health support to a child and their family going through a cancer diagnosis
  • £5,000 could help fund a vital piece of equipment in one of their children’s hospitals
  • £10,000 could fund sensory equipment for children with disabilities
  • £100,000 could pay for the refurbishment of a children’s hospital ward to give ill children the best possible environment

Free will offer and suggested donation

Whilst these appointments are free, the charity suggests that you might like to make a donation in place of paying the usual fee.

Rockinghorse has a suggested donation of £90 towards a single will or £150 towards a joint will once your will is finalised, this can be done via the charity’s website quoting ‘free will offer’ or by calling their office on 01273 330044.

To take advantage of this offer, visit the Rockinghorse website at www.rockinghorse.org.uk, search ‘Leave a gift in your will’ and choose one of the solicitors taking part. Appointments are available now and bookings will stay open until all the free places are taken.
