Development plans for Frosts Cars site on Brighton Road

Residents and businesses are being urged to have their say on the potential redevelopment of a key site in Shoreham. An application was originally made last August by developer Shoreham Brighton Road Limited to turn the Frosts Cars site on Brighton Road into a mixture of 183 one and two-bedroom apartments and business space.

The plans have been amended with an improved design of the ground-floor level, as well as an agreement for 30% affordable housing, and Adur District Council now wants to hear the views from as many people as possible on the potential scheme.

More time for residents to have their say

In view of the public interest, Adur District Council has spoken to the developers, who have agreed to extend the public consultation period and increase the number of public open days than was first proposed, with the community able to have their say until September 12th to take into account the fact that many residents go away during August.

The development is then expected to be considered by a planning committee in autumn. Cllr Steve Neocleous, Adur District Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “I am pleased that the scheme now includes affordable housing and the developers are willing to work with the Council to actively engage with local residents through this extended consultation period.

“There is a shortage of housing but any new developments need to be on a reasonable scale and the infrastructure must be improved to cope with additional traffic and pressure on local services. Residents have legitimate concerns about these proposed projects so we have worked with the developer to make sure people can still have their say in September.

“I would urge everyone to look at the plans at the Shoreham Centre and to tell us what they think.”

The Shoreham Centre and submitting comments

The exhibition of the scheme is on display at the Shoreham Centre foyer from 19th July and is open Monday to Thursday from 9pm till 8pm and on Fridays from 9am till 6pm.

Shoreham Brighton Road Limited and its representatives also intend to have representatives at the Shoreham Centre between 4pm and 8pm on Thursday August 4th, Wednesday August 31st and Thursday September 8th to answer any questions on the scheme.

The Council is writing to anyone who has previously made comments on the scheme, but also wants to hear the views of the wider community, including residents’ groups, before making a final decision on the application.

People can submit their comments either online via the Adur & Worthing Council website www.adur-worthing.gov.uk, or in writing, quoting the reference number AWDM/1473/21 by September 12th 2022.
