Support for Potters House Pre-School’s speech and language initiative

Potters House Pre-School has received a donation of £1,000 from Barratt Homes. The housebuilder, who is currently building its nearby development Ryebank Gate on Drove Lane in Yapton, has supported the school’s new speech and language initiative.

The donation was made from the housebuilder’s Community Fund, which sees Barratt Southern Counties donate to charities and non-profit organisations nearby to its developments.

Potters House Pre-School’s latest initiative aims to support young children’s social development by increasing interaction between the children and with adults.

The donation from Barratt Southern Counties has allowed the pre-school to purchase wooden block play equipment to encourage imaginative play and conversation, and ‘emotion organising bags’, which will help children who are feeling anxious to express their emotions using visual aids.

Pandemic impacting children’s social skills and development

Kimberley Benson, Sales & Marketing Director for Barratt Southern Counties, commented: “In recent years, young children have experienced reduced interaction, which has unfortunately impacted their social development.

“Our donation will help Potters House Pre-School tackle this issue head-on, by providing necessary play tools like wooden block toys to encourage conversation, creativity and sharing with their peers, allowing the children to develop and process their feelings in a healthy manner.”

Sally-Ann Potter, owner and manager of Potters House Pre-School, commented: “We have seen a concerning decline in recent years of children not meeting their speech and language goals for their age-group, another unfortunate side-effect from the pandemic.

“As such, we are very grateful for Barratt Southern Counties’ support, which has allowed us to purchase much needed play items and conversation tools, including emotion organising bags, to focus on improving and encouraging socialisation for our children.”
